Pagefile on a mount point

    Question

  • Hi,

Using Windows 2008 R2 with Sp1. Is it possible to specify that the pagefile.sys be on a drive that's mounted to a windows mount point rather than a drive letter? The reason I ask is that I'm running out of drive letters on my RDS farm. You don't seem to be able to specify a mounted drive in the user interface but I edited the registry key:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles

Directly and it appeared to work

  • Anyone? Hacking the registry appears to work but then the GUI indicates that no pages files are present on the mount point but are present on the drive hosting the folder that houses the mount point which is misleading.

  • Hi

If the GUI is not able to display you the path, I tend to think you discovered a un-thinked feature.

Yes it's misleading, but if the file is there it's working.. but I does not know if a side effect can happen. (I guess not as it seem to work in your case)
