Scheduled task still running on Windows Server 2008 R2

    Question

  • We have 36 scheduled tasks we are trying to move to our new server, none of them working so far.

For testing I created simple task. Run notepad.exe.

It runs "with highest privileges" and "whether user is logged on or not".

Notepad didn't pop up and Status still showing Running.

I would appreciate any advise on how to handle it.

  • When I perform this same test it does not pop up on my screen but I can see Notepad.exe running in the task manager when I select "Show processes from all users".

Here is my task History. Looks a lot like yours

Please review your taskmanager user all users and see if notepad.exe is running?

Please unselect "whether user is logged on or not" as this is causing you not to see the notepad.exe program. Then test again.

    Thank you,

  • I understand that you need it to run independently this was just a test to make sure Notepad will pop up on your screen when you are logged in. You are right deselecting was the wrong choice of words. I wanted you to run only if user is logged on to make sure the notepad application and permissions were working.  Start with a simple task like running notepad and then change one thing at a time and see where is not behaving correctly.

    Thank you,
