SSRS 2008 R2 Rendering to PDF **very slow**

    Question

  • Hello.

I have  a report which generates 176 pages(11 x 8.5 inches) consisting of charts and data. The report takes a second or two to generate, but when I "Export to PDF", it takes about 4 minutes. I cannot keep the users waiting for so long to render the report. Is there a way I could speed up the PDF's rendering? I have tried options like removing page breaks, removing total pages , time and other global variables, disabling the anti-virus, but it did not help speed-up the process.

The report runs on development server which has 25 cores and lots of RAM.

Please suggest any other ways to speed up the rendering of pdf file. Thanks!!!

  • Found a workaround for the issue. Rendering it to Microsoft Word takes about 20 seconds and it is much better than rendering it to PDF which takes about 5 mins. After you render the report to Word, you could convert to PDF using the "ADOBE PDF" printer in PRINT options. The conversion is taking me less than a minute to complete.
