Tablix confusing term

    Question

  • Hi

I am new to SSRS   ; the Tablix what is it exactly? I am watching Pluralsight video on reporting and she uses the terms "table" and tablix in the same time when explaining an actually  what I understand as table region.

I know there is no such thing as a tablix (control) or region  in the tool box of BIDS

So why use the term tablix ever? what is the virtue/significance of the term?

Can I just pretend I never heard of it  and still create good reports in sql 2008r2?

I mean I am totally confused ; can some one please understand and explain to me in simple words

  • Tablix is same as table with additional capability of adding different levels of grouping horizontally (column) and vertically (row). To use it you select table item from toolbox and you've in menu ability to add row and column groups which make it dynamically grow in both directions.

  • I suggest that you go through the following to understand - http://sqlmag.com/sql-server-reporting-services/touring-tablix-sql-server-reporting-services

I don't recommend that you pretend to have never heard of it because the term is used quite a lot in books online and on the forums and other websites.

    Hope this helps.
