Routing mails from Qmail to Exchange 2010 (same domain)

    Question

  • I got a Qmail server runing fine, but we decided to upgrade to exchange 2010. Due to budget constraint, we decided to split the users to Qmail and Exchange. Now what is happening is that sending to internal and external are working fine. But recieving is giving us a problems. Once we migrate the mailbox from Qmail to exchange, NDR occurs stating that there is no mailbox for the email address.

I need your help on how i can make my setup work, how i can coexist Qmail and exchange together on same domain.

  • Hi,

I don't know how Qmail works, but on the Exchange side, you have to set the domain as internal relay and a send connector to the Qmail server

So that if the users doesn't exists in Exchange that it forwards them to Qmail

Or even better, setup sub-domains and use the for mail routing

    domain.com

    qmail.domain.com

    exchange.domain.com

  • I prefer the internal relay option mentioned above.  You may have to change your MX records so that they point to the Exch server, and you will have to also configure an accepted domain (internal relay).
