How to change list column Display Name in SharePoint 2010, which should not break the existing functional of data retrival?

    Question

  • There are several lists and document libraries in the site collection, list columns names are in different language. The lists are refereed by many pages and sub-sites in the site collection. When I'm changing the column name text to a different text seems it breaks the functionality to referred the list item by any pages or site. and the records seem not working for those lists in the page.

Is there any way at-least to convert the text (Chiness language) of list column to a different language (i.e. English) which should not break the functionally of any existing item retrieval.

    Please provide the helpful information.

Answers

  • if you are refering display name some where in your code it will reflect your functionality.

Please do it on the basis of internal name.

Second thing, why you want to change display name.

you can create a duplicate column with the same name and with the help of view ,you are able to display records to user.

All this depend on your Business requirement.

  • How are they being referred to? In code? Can you modify the code to use the internal name of the column?
