Windows 8.1 deployment in MDT 2013

    Question

  • So I got the deployment to work for both 32 and 64 bit Windows 8.1, however on devices with wireless adapters the deployment stops on the 'Get Online' pane of the OOBE where it then requires someone to manually specify the network connection it should use to finish the deployment.  It should just continue using the wired connection it already has, but it doesn't, so it lists that connection and a bunch of wireless connections in the area and forces the tech to pick something.

    How are we to hide this dialog?  This is only part of the OOBE that is appearing.  After a network connection is picked it continues with the end of the deployment.

    I know Windows 8.0 had an issue where it stopped on the screen to create a user, and this was bypassed by having it create a user silently in the unattend.xml and then have that be removed afterwards.  Windows 8.1 doesn't have that same issue, but this one stops at a network selection screen instead.

    Thanks

  • Seems that the OOBE section of the unattend.xmls for all windows 8.1 installs in MDT need to be updated as follows:

    <OOBE>

       <HideEULAPage>true</HideEULAPage>
      <NetworkLocation>Work</NetworkLocation>
      <ProtectYourPC>1</ProtectYourPC>
      <HideLocalAccountScreen>true</HideLocalAccountScreen>
    <HideOnlineAccountScreens>true</HideOnlineAccountScreens>
    <HideWirelessSetupInOOBE>true</HideWirelessSetupInOOBE>

    </OOBE>
