Web Part is not visible via External Link

    Question

  • Hi,

I have a Sharepoint 2013 site on which i have added a content query webpart which is customized with xslt.

When i access url locally it is  visible. but when that link is accessed externally only that web part is not visible.

All other custom web parts are visible.

How could i resolve this issue?

  • Yes, I already checked it out with major version.

Actually, i want that site to be visible outside of My Network, How could i do this?

  • Add an entry in your DNS server and the site should be accessable out side the network.

  • I already it, it was accessible before now not.

Also, I have a code to submit data from Visual webPart to List.

I used the CurrentContext rather than static url, Will it create problem when i will access site

    as 111.111.111.111:1234/SitePages/Home.aspx?

  • Still the content query web part is not available...

Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.

Content Query Web Part is not visible when link is accessed Externally as i asked you.

But it is visible locally to me.

How could i make it visible externally also?

  • Hi,

Please make sure you are using the right url for browsing the site. From Central admin find the alternate access mappings for the site. You should not browse the site with IP address as SharePoint use the site url for it's internal processing and accessing the site with IP address or any other name without one defined in alternate access mapping might have side effects. Also please make sure when you browsing the site from other computer the IE settings are right (like the url is in local intranet zone).

    Thanks,

    1. If you use internal url (users in same active directory domain) you should add your url to intranet zone of alternate access mapping.
    2.  If you use external url . you should add your url to internet zone of alternate access mapping.

  • Few things to cross check.

    1. Are you using same user on local and external?

    2. Check the web parts are on the page by adding contents=1 at the end of URL

Example: if URL is http://server/pages/default.aspx chnage it to http://server/pages/default.aspx?contents=1 and see the web parts are showing on the page.

    3. Open developer tools/console (F12 on the browser) and see if there are script errors in the page.

    Developer tools console

  • The content Query Webpart is Visible inside local environment, but when client access it externally it shows me the error i mentioned above.

How could i use the same url for local and external access?

If my local url is abd10:65656/SitePages/Home.aspx

then after making it extral it will be 111.111.111.111:1234/SitePages/Home.aspx

And yes both user are same in external and internal environment

  • Please make sure to map alternate links in central admin.

  • its already done. Otherwise it would not be possible to even a home page.

I am just getting an error on content query web part.

As you said, i got something in Shared View as

    Latest              ContentByQueryWebPart      No

    that means Open On Page == NO;

How could i set it to YES.

After Reset clcik still it is set to  NO

  • Closed Web parts can be returned to the page by going through the process to add a Web part, and then selecting a Web part from the Closed Web Parts category

Another way with PS script below.
