    Question

  • Hello

I having major problems decommissioning my SBS 2008 Server. When I run DCPROMO it fails and gives the error "Failed to detect if Active Directory Domain Services binaries were installed." Also when I try to run Remove Roles in Server Manager I get the error "Server Manager encountered an unexpected error while collecting data about the status of this computer.

I have run the Update Readiness Tool and the CheckSUR.log file contains the following

I have looked at the content of the currently available WinRM packages but they do not appear to be the correct version. Also it seems that the package/patch distributed as KB9500999 is no longer available. Is there anywhere I can go to obtain the required mum files?

  • Hi:

Don't imagine my search skills are any better than yours, but there are a number of articles/posts on this subject.  If none of them work for you, can we assume you are in the final steps of a migration from SBS to "something else"?  If so you may be able to just switch off the SBS you are leaving and use MS tools to clean up the surviving system(s).

  • Hi Larry

In all the articles I have found so far, everyone was able to extract the missing MUM's from the relevant MSU's. I cannot find the MSU for KB950099 anywhere. I may be forced to turn the server off eventually but I was hoping to fix the issue and proceed with the decomm in a structured way.

I was hoping someone on this forum would have access to my missing MUM's.

  • Hi Mike-Allen,

Just additional. In Control Panel, in Programs, please open Programs and Features. WinRM might be listed as a Windows update with the KB articles numbers: KB950099. You might need to click the View installed updates in the Tasks sidebar to view currently installed updates. Please check if you can find it.

In addition, would you please let us know which process you operate, then this issue occurred? As Larry said, were you in the final step of a SBS migration?

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Justin Gu
