User permission on Sharepoint 2010

    Question

  • Hi all,

I have a Sharepoint site that manage many users from different departments.

The requirement is: users from a department can see all the lists of Sharepoint

site, but cannot see the list items of other departments. Would you please give

me your advice on this .

    Thank you very much !

Answers

  • 1. Let each list have its own independent permissions by breaking inheritance

    2. create SharePoint groups for all departments (one group per department)

Now after breaking inheritance remove everyone from the list permissions and then add the SP Group which you created for a department.

Now the listitems can only be seen by members of this group.

the lists itself is always visible to everyone but not the content.

  • if all the user belongs to the same site ..then set item level permission..

Need to create group for the user departmentwise..

Another way is you do it by customization, create view and set filter on the basis of department..

  • Thank you all for your answers.  I have another question: when a user from a department create an item on a list, how can I prevent users from other departments see it ? Do I need to write an item event receiver on list ? or do we have any way to config ?

    Thanks!!!
