EWS Managed API 2.0 supports hybrid setup

    Question

  • I am wondering if the API supports hybrid setup. For example: some users are on Exchange Online and some users are on on-premise exchange server for the same company.

    Please let me know if this is not clear.

  • From any EWS clients perspective there is nothing to support in regards to hybrid mode. What's important is the Endpoint (exchangeservice.url) you submit to.

    So what is import in regards to a hybrid setup is that your using Autodiscover and that Autodiscover is configured correctly for Hybrid mode. Outlook use EWS for FreeBusy/Out of office so if Autodiscover is configured correctly and your Outlook clients work okay in Hybrid mode then you shouldn't have an issue with any other EWS client as long as you use AutoDiscover as this will be same endpoint.

  • Get appointments would work but saving appointment for on-premise user will fail with this error "The SMTP address has no mailbox associated with it"

  • EWS is no different from the other Mailbox API's and clients in that you can't do Cross Premise Access with it outside of FreeBusy information. see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2807149
