Lync 2010 - Unable to search user with first or last name

    Question

  • This morning started seeing the error message as below , not sure what has changed . all of sudden all users are not able to search contacts just by typing the first Name or Last (But if we do EMail address which is also their SIP address works ok .) Suggestion please !!!

    Address Book Server has encountered an unexpected exception.

    Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
    Exception Type: System.NullReferenceException

       at Microsoft.Rtc.ABServer.ABServer.<ContactFromDataRow>d__0.MoveNext()
       at Microsoft.Rtc.ABServer.ABServer.ReadContactsFromSqlAndWriteToOutput(NormalizeRuleSet normalizationRules, SqlConnection sqlConnection, List`1 sinks)
       at Microsoft.Rtc.ABServer.ABServer.Synchronize()
    Cause: Internal Error
    Resolution:
    Contact Product Support Services.

  • I fixed the issue by running the following commond and also Make sure the Rights on the Share is appropriate :

    SERVER                  RTC Component Local Group   ReadAndExecute, Modify, Write Allow
    DOMAIN                 RTCHSUniversalServices          ReadAndExecute, Modify, Write Allow
    DOMAIN                 RTCComponentUniversalServices ReadAndExecute, Modify, Write Allow
    DOMAIN                 RTCUniversalServerAdmins      ReadAndExecute, Modify, Write Allow
    DOMAIN                 RTCUniversalConfigReplicator  ReadAndExecute, Modify, Write Allow

    Get-CsAddressBookConfiguration ;Update-CsUserDatabase ; Enable-CsComputer .
