FQDN Query when publishing the Lync 2010 Topology

    Question

  • Hello All

While am Defining  the Topology for Lync 2010 Enterprise Edition , in which the define of  SQL store , i forgot to mention the FQDN of SQL server name, instead i was mentioned only server name. my sql server FDQN is SQL.doitnow.com

    Define a new sql Store

    SQL Server FQDN : SQL

    instead of SQL.doitnow.com

    SQL instance : RTC

    Topology published successfully .

is there any issue will come in future without mentioning of FQDN during the initialization of lync 2010?

After published the topology, all the data stored in central management Store and so, how can i modify any of the  data's after it saved to CMS (after Published topology)

can i delete / remove - CMS and re-publish the topology ? is there any harm ?

  • In a Lync installation, FQDNs are always preferred.

I would suggest to remove and republish the topology since you haven't went too far with the installation.

  • Hello Holger,

i already done  and failed to create new new topoplogy

however i managed to rename the current server name from LYNCFE01  to LYNCFE01N.dotnow.com and created a new DNS record

I was able to manage the publish the topolgy now.

i would like add an additional Front end server (LyncFe02.doitnow.com) in the same pool.

What are the steps needs to be done to add the new FE server in the existing lync 2010 enterprise edition?

  • Ok, that sounds good.

Install the new Server in your topology with all prequisites.

Add the Server LyncFe02.doitnow.com to your Enterprise pool FQDN and publish the topology.

Run the Deployment wizzard on your new Server.

    Install the certificate

Configure the load balancer for th web services

    Configure the required DNS entries.

This is only a short list of steps.

  • Yes, you can republish your correct Configuration. It is still a requirement to use the FQDN for all server.

  • So, do you want to do the below

ADSI edit (ADSI Edit\CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com\CN=Services\CN=RTC Service\CN=Pools), then run Remove-CsConfigurationStoreLocation on Lync server.

    Please suggest

  • You need to run the command Remove-CsConfigurationStoreLocation if you want to create a new publish with the FQDN.

  • No Problem, you can use adsiedit to remove all Information and run the Deployment wizzard again.

Search for the CN=RTC Service,CN=Microsoft,CN=System,DC=Domain... and remove the complete Tree.

Rerun the Deployment wizzard and than the create the new topology.

  • Thanks Holger

So i  need to do the below

    1. open an existing topology file , by downloading topology from existing deployment from the server  LYNCFE01n.doitnow.com

2.Expand Enterprise Edition Front End Pools

    3. Right Click the POOL --> New Server -- FQDN of Second Server  abd Primary IP address

    4. Loging to the second FE server and install the Prequesties

4.Run the Deployment wizzard on your new Server.

    5.Install the certificate

    6.Start the service

if i need load balance then need the below ,

Configure the load balancer for th web services

    Configure the required DNS entries.

Could you please correct me if am i missing anything

  • Yes, that's correct.

For only DNS Load Balancing, you should add a second host A entry for your pool, which points to the second FE, if the FE is complete installed.
