  • Run Windows Update and install all updates.

If Windows asked you to send more details about this issue, please send them.

Run disk clean up and if your are not using SSD hard disk, run defragment.

  • Look for a program online - available through Cnet -  called 'whatishang'. (dumb name, helpful program). It will give you an error log when you have any type of hanging problem. Through this program I found out that AVG Free version 2014 was the cause of my right-click hanging. Removed AVG...all is well.

    good luck,

  • Advice to defragment a disk on a system with a problem is irresponsible.  Don't do it!

Fragmentation of the data on a drive will NOT cause a crash on an otherwise healthy system.  It may cause some slowness is all.

If there's any kind of disk hardware failure brewing, attempting to defrag that disk will stress it, almost certainly accelerate the failure, and increase the chance of losing the user's data.  It's like when your check engine light comes on in your car, then taking advice to drive like Mario Andretti to the repair shop.  That's precisely when you'd want to take it a bit easy, no?  Not push it hard.

  • Hi,

According to your description, let us try safe mode and clean boot mode to check the result.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

If the issue still persists, please use Process Explorer to analyzing if one of processes crashed

    Process Explorer v15.40:
