An attempt was made to query the existence of a blank password for an account.

    Question

  • Seeing on the two machines I have with windows 8 release preview..

    after reboot..

    "An attempt was made to query the existence of a blank password for an account."

    security event id 4797, after the firewall service starts.

    Web searching isn't yielding much. Wondering if this is something others are seeing and what it is all about. It looks like it scans all local user accounts on the machine.

    Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    May I know when the error message appeared, when opening an application or during other specific operations? If it just occurred when Windows starts, please try booting to clean boot mode with msconfig method to test the issue:

    How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

  • he is talking windows 8.  have the same problem but at random points. your answer refers to server 2008. event i d4797

    4797 is different in windows 8

    any ideas?

  • This is not the Correct answer for Windows 8. your http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc774338(v=WS.10).aspx refers to windows server 2008 this question is not answered properly
