My computer can't see itself in Network folder

My computer is running Vista Ultimate and my husband's computer is running Vista Home Premium. When I click on Network, my computer isn't in my workgroup and when he clicks on Network his computer isn't in his workgroup. If we turn on a laptop computer, (it doesn't matter whether it is one running XP or one running Vista) then all the computers in the workgroup appear including our own. When the laptop is shut down the Network goes back to the way it was before. It has not always done this. It seemed to me that it only started doing this after I installed VirtualBox on my Vista Ultimate computer. I tried uninstalling VirtualBox, but it did not help. We both also have Norton Internet Security 2008 installed. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. Does anyone know what could have caused this or how to correct it?

Can the machines access themselves? Please try to access the share folders on this machine by using UNC path (e.g. \\IP address of the computer\share folder) and check the result.
In addition, I suggest performing the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Temporarily uninstall the Norton Internet Security 2008 on both machines and check the result.
2. Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on both machines:
1) Open the Network Connections panel, right-click the Connection being used, select Properties.
2) Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
3) Click Advanced button, click the WINS tab and select Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
4) Click OK to exit, and check the result.Hope it helps.

First of all, the machines can access themselves. I uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2008 on both machines and both machines started seeing themselves in the Network folder. I then reinstalled NIS 2008 on one computer. That one stopped seeing itself in the Network folder. I tried turning off the NIS firewall and using Windows firewall instead. That restored the local machine to the Network folder. However I would rather use the NIS firewall, but I don't know how or if I can configure it so that the local machine shows in the Network folder. Can anyone help me with this? -
