Netsh Wlan -- Access point starts however cannot share internet connection from LAN
-
So, I have a ASUS PCE-N53 WLAN card that has given me problems ever since the 8.1 update. I originally used the card to connect to my router for internet services because the LAN in my house was down due to renovations (CAT6a cable install). When the 8.1 update happened the card crapped out de to incompatible drivers. ASUS released a driver, finally and it works however they have yet to release a utility to go with the card. Now, since I have my LAN back I would like to turn the card into an access point. I use the netsh wlan set hostednetwork command to setup an ssid and a network key, I then used the netsh wlan start hostednetwork command, then went into the properties of my LAN adapter (the adapter connected to my router and the internet) and enable ICS and specified the hosted network (the Microsoft virtual network adapter). The card is broadcasting, my wireless devices see it and can establish a connection with my computer however they get no internet. It seems to be a problem between the two adapters (the virtual and LAN), do I need a particular service running in order to translate the packets between the card and my LAN? Any ideas?

1. So you install driver ASUS PCE-N53 Driver 5.0.35.0 before plugging card (?).
2. What you can see in Device Manager? Are there any traces in Event Viewer?
3. I do see only two items on support page - driver and manual
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=PCE-N53&os=
4. If nothing helps I would recommend contactiing ASUS support/forum

After contacting ASUS, I have been informed that a new driver and utility package is currently in development. I never got a straight answer as to why ICS would no work with the ASUS WLAN card and my LAN card. Please not that the manual for the ASUS PCE-N53 describes how to configure the card into SOFT AP Mode using the software utility that came originally with the card. The software utility no longer functions in Windows 8.1. For anyone experiencing the same issue as I am I will be checking am in contact with the software dev team at ASUS and will update this post as soon as I hear more about the new software package.
