FRS DomainControllerName: (null)

    Question

  • I have two Server 2012 DCs that were not replicating because of IPv6 issues which have been resolved and all the tests I run now indicate everything is working properly except when I run NTFresutl. I don't receive any errors but it always reports FRS  DomainControllerName: (null).  Everything I can find says that this isn't normal for 2008 and below but I can't ding any documentation for Server 2012.

  • A 2012 domain environment would use dfsr for ad replication so pretty sure this is normal result.

  • I believe this is only true for new 2008 and higher environments.  An environment that has been upgraded from 2003 or earlier can still use FRS for sysvol replication if it hasn't been migrated.  Microsoft highly recommends using DFSR for sysvol replication.  Here is the migration guide:

  • Denis was correct but you supplied the link to fix the issue, which was we hadn't migrated to DFSR.  Thanks to you we are now.

  • Thanks Jerry we are at a 2012 forest level but after reading some of the troubleshooting section in the migration guide you suggest, looks like I have something wrong.  I'll let you know what I find tonight.
