Project Server 2013 Cumulative Update

    Question

  • I have SharePoint 2013 with the March PU installed (kb2767999). Now we are going to install Project Server 2013 onto the SharePoint 2013 installation. We have downloaded Project Server 2013 from MSDN today and note that there is a April 26 2013 cumulative update for Project server (kb 2737990). Since this download is 1.8 gigs it seems like may be bundled with the SharePoint March PU which we already have installed. The original ISO fro Project Server is only 101 megs so it seems like an update would be small too, not 1.8 gigs. There is also an April 26, 2013 update for SharePoint 2013 (kb 2726992) that is a slightly different size than the Project Server April 26 Cumulative update, however both the SharePoint and the Project Server cumulative update say they are build "15.0.4505.1005".

So, do we need to install BOTH the SharePoint 2013 April 26th Cumulative Update and the Project Server April 26th Cumulative Update or just the Project Server one?

    We don't want to mess up our farm . .  . .

  • Hello,

With most CU's there are individual packages for either SharePoint or Project Server but there is also a Project Server Server package CU that includes the SharePoint updates also. The March PU is the same, there was an update for SharePoint only and SharePoint + Project Server. If you have already built the farm with March PU and since installed / installing Project Server, run the March PU for Project Server and SharePoint and the Project Server components will then be updated.

  • Installing the Project Server 2013 April 2013 CU Server package includes the SharePoint updates : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2737990. Please be aware this update introduced a bug in Project Server where by milestones that are baselined cause a reporting synch failure. If you are wanting to use milestones and baseline those milestones and report on the data you might want to hold fire on the April CU. Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks. OK, I'm starting to see a pattern here. There's a June CU for SharePoint 2013 called "2871414" and a June CU for Project Server 2013 called "287415". Do you think I can assume that the SharePoint 2013 June 2013 update is included in the Project Server 2013 update even though it doesn't say so? The Resolution section on "2871415" does make mention that the Project Server June 26, 2013 CU "resolves the issues that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) articles" and some of them are SharePoint Server 2013 hotfix packages but it DOESN'T say "the SharePoint Server 2013 June 2013 CU is included in this Project Server 2013 CU", which would be the logical thing to say.

What's your guess? Is the SharePoint Server 2013 June 2013 CU included in the Project Server 2013 June 2013 CU? These TechNet articles are so unclear !

    Many thanks,

    Kathryn

  • so, the Project Server updates will include SharePoint since SharePoint is a requirement for Project Server.  SharePoint updates will NOT include Project Server.

    Hope that helps

  • Thanks, Eric,

But this still leaves the issue of how to get the Project part of the March PU onto the server since we installed the SharePoint only PU and then installed Project Server RTM. If we install the Project Server March CU will it ignore the SharePoint part and only put on the Project Server updates? Or is there a Project Server ONLY March PU somewhere?

    Thanks,

    Kathryn
