Unable to Browse the default website after installing WSUS

  • Hello,

    I have installed WSUS 3.0 SP2 on Windows 2008 R2 , selected the default website while installing. synchronization and download of patches are fine in the server, but the clients are not getting the updates. When i verified the by browsing to http://<ip address of WSUS> getting error

    500 - Internal server error.
    There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

    In wsus server unable to browse the default website http://localhost.

    ERROR:

    HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

    The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

    HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error

    The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

    This is a known and documented issue, albeit rarely encountered. It's discussed in this forum thread and the fix is discussed in this blog post.

    In short, this scenario occurs when WSUS is installed on an x64 server with an already-existing 32-bit web application. In this scenario, the 32-bit application has already implemented a 32-bit instance of SUSCOMP.DLL, which is conflicting with the 64-bit version that WSUS is trying to use.

    The 'fix' essentially is to disable the 64-bit SUSCOMP.DLL that WSUS is trying to use.

    The command to use is:

    %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/httpCompression /-[name='xpress']
