Problem on Surface Pro 2

    Question

  • I've had no luck with power BI on a Surface Pro 2.  I installed the app from the store.  When I open it, it just goes to a blank blue screen.

I try to uninstall by pressing and holding and pressing uninstall.  The startup icon is gone, but when I go to the store, it says the app is installed.  Please help, this is tremendously frustrating.  How do a force and uninstall so I can update?

  • Sorry you've been having this problem.  We'll see what we can do to help.

Sounds like you are in some intermediate state after a bad install. We tried to repro your issue on a Surface Pro 2 but couldn't.

Here is a suggestion that might help. If you open the charm bar and go to search and type "Power BI", do you see the app show up in the search results? If so, can you right click and "Uninstall" from there and see if you can then cleanly install from the store?

Let us know if this helps or if you are still having problems either with uninstalling or with installing from the store and we'll continue working with you on finding a resolution if you are.

  • Yup, that is how I tried to uninstall.  I click uninstall and seems to work.  If I go to the store it shows install.  When I reboot the power BI icon is back on my home screen.

  • What happens if you click install from the store rather than rebooting?   Do you have other Surface Pro 2 machines you have tried this in and seen the same problem, or is it unique to this machine?

    Ace,

It looks like we need to take this offline with you to troubleshoot it. Please email me. It's edprice at Microsoft.

    Thanks!

  • You can e-mail me directly as well.  My e-mail is frgarcia@microsoft.com.  I have some ideas for other troubleshooting things to try, but its probably most effective to have an e-mail/phone conversation.

    Ace,

    Is this still an issue?

    Thanks!

  • UPDATE:

Hello! Fred from the Power BI apps team is still troubleshooting this with Ace.

However, we can't repro this issue on any of our devices.

Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm going to sticky this thread for a little bit just to see.

    Thanks!
