Parallel execution of Tasks without MAXDOP

    Question

  • Hi Experts,

I am going to design parallel execution of tasks so that my procedure take less time , here i am not talkking about CPU parallelism (MAXDOP) , in my proc there number of operations are clubbed and they get execute sequentially. I want to split that and run it in Parallel way.

if you have desgin such kind of robust logic , could you please share ? I know this could be achieved by SSIS package,

is there any way to implement in SQL server 2008 ? 2012

  • Hello,

If you decrease cost threshold for parallelism SQL server will automatically create parallel processing for any query whose cost is greater than value set   (if MAX degree of parallelism is 0 or default value in sp_configure).Although default value is 5 i would not like you to change it unless you are very sure what you want to achieve.

Any query whose cost is greater than 5 will utilize parallel processing.

I am not sure whether this would be right way but will fit in your scenario what you asked for
