SSRS 2012: An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'hurray' that is either not registered for this report server or is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services

    Question

  • I had developed a data processing extension for SSRS 2008. Everything works perfectly fine with SSRS 2008.

    When using the DPE with SSRS 2012, and designing reports with SQL Server Data Tools, got the below error.

    {"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces, Version=10.0.0.0,

    Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's

    manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT:

    0x80131040)":"Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,

    PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91"}

    By editing the bindingredirect entries in <VS Installation Dir>\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe.config, i dont get the above error anymore and i am able to connect to datasoure and retrieve the fields(columns) in the table. I have redirected 10.0.0.0 version of Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.dll to 11.0.0.0 which comes with SSRS 2012.

    <dependentAssembly>
    				<assemblyIdentity name="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces" publicKeyToken="89845dcd8080cc91" culture="neutral"/>
    				<bindingRedirect oldVersion="9.0.242.0-10.0.0.0" newVersion="11.0.0.0"/>
    			</dependentAssembly>

    However, preview of data gives the below error.

    An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'hurray' that is either not registered for this report server or is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services

    Please help resolve this issue. Thanks a lot in advance.
