Disable non-essential services on SharePoint server

    Question

  • Hi, as per my System Admin team they are asking to disable below services from SharePoint server if not essential:

    Computer Browser
    DHCP Client
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    Special Administration Console Helper
    Task Scheduler
    Shell Hardware Detection
    Distributed Link Tracking Client
    Windows Error Reporting Service

Please suggest me that which service we can disable from SharePoint server?

Answers

  • I would not disable the DTC, RPC, or Windows Error Reporting Service. I do not consider these non-essential.

Generally, I just would not disable default services. There is little point in doing so in today's environment, and generally screams amatuer admin :-)
