Audit tables implementing in SQL Server?

    Question

  • I currently use two tables with the same structure. One of them is my main table and another one is the table I use to save the current state before auditing via the trigger.

I'd like to know does anyone have a better method for auditing data changes.

The data I am working with is sensitive but there shouldn’t be too many updates

Answers

  • I have some sort of two table design too: one table keeps data about transaction (database, schema, app that triggered transaction, date, etc.).

I use second table just to save record changes so that I can easily undo those.

You can also use Change Data Capture feature in SQL Server or maybe some third party tools in this category.
