Uninstall Sql 2008 SP3 -- > "There are no sql server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer"

    Question

  • **** Solved. I found that a Sql 2008 SP3 Hotfix was installed post the SP3 install! After uninstalling that Hotfix SP3 uninstalled easily!

I have a test Hyper-V Sql 2008 SP3 server and want to remove the SP3 install.  Under "Add or Remove Programs" > "View Installed Updates" I found "Service Pack 3 for Sql Server 2008 (KB2546951) (64-bit)", right-click, selected "Uninstall", the "Sql 2008 Update"  screen appears, passes all tests, hit "Next", the "Select Features" pane does not let me select anything, hit "Next" and get the error shown in the subject of this posting. So I cancelled the uninstall. What am I doing wrong? Again, I am trying to uninstall an existing Sql Service Pack not upgrade anything in the usual sense.

    TIA,

    P.S.

Originally I included the "Summary.txt" file but it only showed that I cancelled the install. Then I looked at the "Details.txt" file. It shows this:

2013-10-12 13:12:25 Slp: Package ID sql_engine_core_inst_loc_Cpu32_1033: match result for Discovery - Version: True, Cpu: False, Language: True
2013-10-12 13:12:25 Slp: Package ID sql_engine_core_inst_loc_Cpu32_1033: match result for Discovery - Version: True, Cpu: False, Language: True
2013-10-12 13:12:25 Slp: Package ID sql_engine_core_inst_loc_Cpu32_1033: NotInstalled - Package was found but determined as NotInstalled because at least one of CPU, version or language was not matched. Check the match result for which one was not matched.
    2013-10-12 13:12:25 Slp: Package ID sql_engine_core_inst_loc_Cpu32_1036: NotInstalled

I don't understand the error  but "SLP" reminds me of the word "SlipStream". Is it possible that SP3 was applied to this machine as the first upgrade and it can't rollback to sql 2008 RTM?
