windows 8 resume issue

    Question

  • I have a windows 8 x64 desktop and when the system resumes from sleep, the icons are gone on the desktop and the only programs I can run are windows 8 apps I cannot view word docs, run cmd, or anything.

    Any ideas?

You have multiple issues That have been going on for a long time.  These are just some of them

1-Thousands of errors from Symantec endpoint.  It should be removed.

2-Hundreds of Disk errors (may be a failing HD)

Either of the above (or both) can be why you cant wake it.

This log is over 16 Mbs.  You should clear you event logs occasionally

  • Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:

    Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    Expand Custom Views
    Click Administrative Events
    Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to skydrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post

    thanks in advance.

    (UPDATE)

Wanted to add that it appears to be a screen wake issue. I changed the screen off time to one minute and left the sleep time longer. Once the screen went black, I wiggled the mouse and the issue came up. So I think it may be just from the screen going off not necessarily sleep mode.

  • Hi MILADMIN,

I am Chetan Savade from Symantec Technical Support team.

As per the eventviewer info it seems Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client need to be repaired.

You can do it with the help of add/remove programs. Select SEP and perform the repari.

It's not recommened to uninstall Antivirus prodcut. I hope meanwhile you have enabled Windows firewall.

    Regards,

    Chetan
