Syncing Sharepoint 2010 calendar with Outlook 2010

    Question

  • Hi, we have a problem synchronizing Sharepoint calendar with Outlook.

It worked pretty well when we first updated items on the Sharepoint calendar, and then clicked on the “Calendar” ribbon to “Connect to Outlook”. The updated events would be displayed on local Outlook calendars accordingly.

However, for some unknown reason, that function stopped working like a month ago and we got the following error message:

Task ‘SharePoint’ reported error (0x80004005): ‘An error in this SharePoint’ List (XXXXXXX PC Calendar). Try updating the folder again. If the problem continues, contact the SharePoint site administrator. HTTP 500. The server returned the following message: Exception of type ‘Microsoft SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException’ was thrown.’

We’ve tried several ways to solve the problem:

    1) Updated the folder, (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-foundation-help/synchronize-sharepoint-2010-content-with-outlook-2010-HA101881295.aspx)

    2) Checked server logs,

    3) Checked settings in SharePoint Central Administration, and

    4) Updated Microsoft Sync  Framework on the server; (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/362748be-9fc9-44cb-9223-42172ad8fada)

but so far found nothing really helpful to this issue.

We’ll really appreciate it if you can help with this MS synchronization hiccup.

    Thanks very much!

  • Thanks again for the suggestions. We did not have Sharepoint Workspace 2010 installed, but we discovered by launching the Sharepoint Configuration Wizard application, the system prompts to install updates. Once the updates were applied, the calendar issue was resolved.

  • Hi SpWu, Are you using Outlook 2007 or 2010 ?

  • We use Outlook 2010. And the error message is from Outlook, too.

  • To debug this problem try using SharePoint workspace 2010 and Sync your SharePoint Site with it. If you are unable to sync with SharePoint Workspace 2010 then your Sync Framework would be corrupted.Try re-installing Microsoft Sync Framework and it will work.
