Exchange 2010 Performance Issue?

    Question

  • Hi

We run Exchange 2010 Std SP2 with the latest rollup.  Exchange is run on a Hyper-V VM, I run two stores, one being 107GIG and the other being 147GIG with 166 mailboxes in total, it has 16GIG RAM allocated to it from the physical host and 4 processors.  I have just started to notice, not all the time, but intermittently when you create a new email message, press send, it will sit there for anywhere between 5-20 seconds before sending.  It does not matter on the size of the message, it could be a one lined message.  It also does not matter on the size of the users mailbox.

First things to check?  Any help would be great.

    Cheers

  • Is it happening with OWA as well ? if it is same there also then you need to tweak some throttling settings, Please see below URL for Client Throttling.

  • 1:  I think you need to check Transaction logs status first.. Seems Logs not being trunket properly..

2: Firewall status.. (Is it TMG or other?) If TMG  check email settings..

  • Hi Sanjay

How do I check / troubleshoot your first question?

Second question, no its not TMG, we use a hardware WatchGuard firewall.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Does it sit in Outbox for 5-20 seconds before sending?

Please also test the issue on other workstations.

  • You don't mention if the Outlook client is in cached mode.

If you want to look at server performance, take a peek at PAL as it will give you a starting point for server performance analysis.

  • Hi

No, it does not sit in the Outbox.

I have tested with other users, which are on different workstations, thin clients etc, same result.

  • Actually, on second look, they aren't on cached mode, it is un-ticked.
