Clean-up on the wsus hierarchy

    Question

  • Hello,

I have a problem with a wsus hierarchy/. We have one wsus upstream server (Windows Server 2008 R2 + WSUS 3 SP2 with SSL), the downstream server execute Windows Server 2003, 2008 or 2008 R2. All Wsus Server use SSL and the SP2 it's installed.

When i try to execute the cleanup wizard on the upstream server and run the synchronisation on the downstream server, i have several update who moved to the unapproved status.

Thus, there is a difference on the number of update between the upstream server and downstream server.

Can you please help me ?

Flat out impossible, as the Server Cleanup Wizard does NOT remove approvals.

So while I don't deny that there's apparently some change in approval states on your downstream servers, the Server Cleanup Wizard most certainly DID NOT cause any approvals to be removed.

The Server Cleanup Wizard WILL NOT perform any operations on an update that has an active approval.

However... it's certainly possible that running the Server Cleanup Wizard on the upstream server will CHANGE the TOTAL number of updates present on the downstream servers. You need to also run the Server Cleanup Wizard on the downstream servers. DELETION of updates does not replicate, so anything deleted on the USS by the SCW, also needs to be deleted on the DSS by the SCW.

  • Yes it's a replica

Then you're going to have to provide some explicit details on what updates have approvals on the Upstream Server and don't have approvals on the Replica Server, because what you're describing is logically impossible.

Okay.. let's back up a step and ask a different question.. one I may have erroneously assumed the answer to...

Are these downstream servers actually configured as *REPLICA* servers?
