What does that mean?  First time was OK?

Did you intend to create a second instance?  Same version? What @@version?

  • No. It did not install right the first time. I was installing under the default instance. The version was SQL Server 2012 and I am installing it in my home computer.

  • did your machine pass all of the pre installation checks , which is a part of the install process itself ? where did you download the sql 2012 binaries from ?

  • When doing the pre installation checks all passed. Except there was a warning for the windows firewall, not a failure. Except that it passed everything else.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Tom,

First use below link to completely uninstall failed installation of SQL server 2012.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143412.aspx

Now read below link properly and install SQL server 2012.

    http://www.sqlcoffee.com/SQLServer2012_0007.htm

I would like you to follow this approach instead of installing SQL server 2012 SP1 ,first install SQL serevr 2012 then after it is installed successfully then upgrade it to SP1

    HTH
