Diskpart hangs on Server 2003

    Question

  • Hi,

On one of our Windows 2003 server, diskpart command hangs after displaying the copyright and the machine name . ( quite sure it's not an issue with privilege , neither RPC and Vitual Disk ... these services are running)

What could be causes of this error ?
How to investigate this issue ?

    Thanks for help.

  • Hi,

Firstly, would you please tell us did you run any command or script in the Diskpart.exe tool?

Based on my research, if you run the clean command in the Diskpart.exe tool on a disk that has at least one partition, the command will never finishes running because of a deadlock in the Virtual Disk Service.

For more detailed information, please refer to the link below:

The Diskpart.exe process stops responding when you run the clean command on a Windows Server 2003-based computer.

In addition, I recommend you use chentfs.exe to perform a disk error check and make sure Plug and Play is also running with RPC and Virtual Disk.

  • Hi

Are you able to open the disk manager to see partition ?  If not the problem is not diskpart but a partition problem, so a chkdsk too maybe.

    Thanks
