HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/spldr is missing.

    Question

  • I am trying to re-activate Server 2008 Std R2. The company who owns it installed some software and decided to uninstall the same at which point the notice "This copy of windows is not genuine" appeared on the desktop. Cannot start the Software Protection Service and read that the start value of the spldr driver may need to be changed. When I checked the registry I found it was missing. Can I regenerate this or download a correct copy, or would it be better to run system restore to the point before the software install?

I am relatively new to server and appreciate any help.

    Thank You

  • Thanks.

Evidently the importing of the spldr.reg did the trick. It took a couple of reboots but the server is activated again. I didn't have to re-enter the key either. Still a bit puzzled as to that part but I appreciate the responses.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi,

Have you ever used Norton Software on this machine?

Maybe it happens due to corrupted hard drive. You could use the chkdsk utility to check the file consistency. You could also use the  sfc utility to detect changes in system files.

Please run the Microsoft Genuine Diagnostics Tool by below link.
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

After this check the spldr driver in registry key, the value should be 0. Also, check your Windows activation, and if needed re-activate (by phone).

    Hope This Helps!
    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the reply.

Never had Norton, have already run chkdsk and sfc utility with no problems detected by either.

Spldr was not there after running both so I imported it from another 2008 std R2. Start value is 0.

Still can't re-activate. Here are the MGD Tool results:

  • Hi,

From your Report which you have posted, it seems like issue with some License type OEM system builder. May be due to that some registry setting are missing.

Also in correspondence to Error code “0xC0000022”, have a look at below article.
