PS 2013: How to create a new project from SharePoint list item via Workflow?

    Question

  • Hi there,

one of the fantastic new functionalities of Project Server 2013 is the possibility to create a project in PS from a SharePoint list item. This functionality has also been added to the SharePoint Designer 2013 workflows as "Create project from current item" action.

Now if I am trying to use this functionality in the SP Designer, I can only choose the EPT for the new project - but I can not map the current data to the Project Server custom fields like when creating the project manually. Is there any way I can use a SP Designer workflow and move all my data from the SP list item to the Project fields? Else this possibility would be rather useless!

  • I found the solution to this one:

As soon as you have a list that is not the Tasks list there is an additional menu in the list settings section called "Project Server settings". There you can define the default mapping of the list columns with the Project Server custom fields.

Now, if the workflow calls the Create project from current item action then the new project is created based on the preconfigured mapping. The only problem with this solution is if you want to have different mappings for different EPTs, but that can't be helped at the moment.
