fsx not working in windows 8.1

Answers

  • Hi,

Currently, you can try installing this software via compatibility mode, this would address general compatibility issue.

Meanwhile, Windows 8.1 preview should get improved by the final release, we can take time to wait it.

  • Also Microsoft Flight (not FSX) does not work under Windows 8.1.  It gets as far as the first UI (splash) window, and then crashest with "Microsoft Flight has stopped working...".  I am dual-booting with Windows 8, under which Flight functions normally, so it is unlikely that this is a driver issue.

  • This seems to be a 64 bit and 32 bit file problem. See if you have 32 bit files in program x32 folder, and in programs folder.
could you show us your event viewer app error for this

  • Hi.

Took a quick look at the processing with Process Monitor. It's fails with dxdiag ... the exception provided is 0xc0000005 and the faulting module is kernel32.dll.

Going to dxdiag.txt in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Microsoft\FSX ... at it's tail dxdiag.txt dumps (dump provided below) a Windows Error Report under Diagnostics.

Probably something with the Nvidia drivers. Tried updating from 326.01 Beta (current Windows Update status) to 326.80 Beta just provided by Nvidia at their site (http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-326.80-beta-driver.html).

But same problem. Still dumps an error. May be a problem with the Nividia Virtual Audio Device ... posted at the head of the dump below ... if the dump is to be interpretated like that. Whatever comes first may be the reason.

    Well, it's still beta.

(BTW Can confirm FSX works with Windows 8 including the UIAutomationCore.dll 32-bit fix on Windows 8 64-bit. Have not tested Windows 8.1 Preview out with Prepar3D since I do not yet have 2 licenses of that app installed (it's on another Windows 8 machine working) ... But may be somebody reading this post could check out if Prepar3D works, if this is about something else i.e. according to dxdiag and may be the gfx-package?).
