DirectAccess Migration (2012) Isatap question

    Question

  • Apparently it is recommended to remove Isatap when migrating from DA 2008R2 to DA 2012. I'd like to do a side-by-side migration to keep users working, but when I remove Isatap, the servers loose their IPV6 addresses and current DA2008 users cannot connect to internal resources. What is the proper way to go about this and keep users connected?

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

As far as i know, DirectAccess is supported in Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 migration only.

  • Hi Mike,

ISATAP is still supported in DA 2012. In fact you need to enable it if you want to use manage out.

So why don't you just leave it enabled while you migrate all your users to DA 2012.

When all users are converted and if you don't need manage out then you can disable ISATAP at that time.

  • Thanks, all the articles I read stated that ISATAP should be disabled for migration. Anyway, I ended up dismantling DA 2008 and started over with DA 2012. There was some "DA" downtime, but it's now completed. Thanks.
