  • I've checked some dumps and I think that the Hotspot Shield Routing Driver is the cause:

    BAD_POOL_CALLER (c2)
The current thread is making a bad pool request. Typically this is at a bad IRQL level or double freeing the same allocation, etc.
    Arguments:

  • A bugcheck (BSOD) is a mechanism to protect your PC from damage.

     Bug Check 0xC2: BAD_POOL_CALLER

To see the cause I have to take a look at the dumps with the Debugging Tools for Windows.

Please start the Windows Explorer and go to the folder C:\Windows\Minidump. Next, copy the dmp files to your desktop, zip all dmp into 1 zip file and upload the zip file to your public Skydrive [1] folder and post a link here.

if you can't see dmp files, make sure your Windows is configured correctly [2][3] to generate dumps.

My Windows 8 restarts when I wake it up from sleep mode and is giving a bad pool caller error.

Here are the dump files, appreciate if you could help pinpoint the error.

My laptop is just a few days old and I don't have Hot Spot Shield installed.

  • Hello

I thought I'd put my problem here as it seemed the right place to do so.

    I'm also having the Bad_Pool_Caller blue screen restarts although my laptop never actually restarts, it just stays on the blue screen. After searching online the term Hotspotshield kept turning up, I have Expat Shield installed on laptop even though it is not meant to be compatible with Windows 8 which I think uses Hotspotshield. I disabled all services associated with Expat Shield and will only start them if I need the program but I am still getting the Bad_Pool_Caller message. I've also read online that the message could be due to other problems, possibly memory. I've zipped the .dmp files and uploaded them to my SkyDrive account here;

    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=C8250F2787F877BE!661

Please could someone advise me whether the problem does indeed have something to do with Expat Shield in which case I will uninstall it and wait for a Windows 8 compatible version or if I need to look elsewhere.

    Thanks

  • Hi Andre

    Thanks for the helpful response.

I've uninstalled Expat Shield which should mean Hotspot Shield has also been uninstalled.

I'll post another reply if I get the Bad_Pool_Caller message again.

Thank you very much for your time and help with this matter.

  • Hi Andre,

I'm having the exact same issue on my brand new Alienware M17x R4.  It is a laptop, not a tablet.  Do you think it is caused by the same hotspot issue?  My wifi card is the Intel 2230.

    Here is my dump:  http://sdrv.ms/UUT1U5

Consciously, I know I never installed a hotspot app of any sort.  However, there could be the possibility that hotspot apps are being bundle with a driver or app that is commonly downloaded and that's why we're all suffering this issue.

BTW, is this how you look at .dmp files?  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263?wa=wsignin1.0

I tried to open it in notepad to diagnose it myself but it was not text.

it seams that Kaspersky (it can be also a different driver which corrupted the data and Kaspersky was the first which tried to access the corrupted data) is causing the issues for you.

  • Hi

i'm also getting bad pool caller error.

i think its because of connectify hotspot .

is there any way to solve this problem without uninstalling that software.

i have already using newer version of connectify HS....

    System Details

    Toshiba Portage R830

    Windows 8Pro 64bit

    Ram 2 gb

  • There is no way. Contact the hotspotshield support and request a WIn8 compatible version.

the driver ndisah.sys seams to be the cause. The driver is a bit old. Update the driver/tool Antamedia HotSpot Software.

AVG is the cause. I've seen this a lot on the last days. Looks like an update is buggy. remove AVG and contact the AVG support.

  • Dear Andre,,

it seems that you are offering a lot of help here so I want you kindly to check my DMB files. I have uploaded them to my SkyDrive on this link:

    https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=5878E6BDB477243D&id=5878E6BDB477243D%21145

I also want you to know that these errors happened while using HotSpot Shield, and after reading some replies and finding that this program causes errors I Uninstalled it, I want you to check if the BSOD happened due to HotSpot or something else.

    Thank You

  • I see you have been helping a lot of people with this problem, I would be most grateful if you could help me I just got this computer 2 days ago with windows 8 already installed and it has been giving me this same problem.

    http:/ sdrv.ms/YaSWwX

there is supposed to be two slashes like this // at the beginning of the link with no space on the link I did that because this fourm wouldn't let me post with a link for some reason.

    thank you

    Hi Carolyn,

the driver kneps.sys seams to be the cause. This diver is part of Kaspersky AntiVirus. So please update Kaspersky, to fix the issue.

  • Thank you very much, by any chance do you know an antivirus software that integrates well with windows 8? Because it seems like AVG does not work well and neither did Avast. I used to have McAfee but removed it recently because I did not like it personally.
