Can SharePoint 2013 Search follows the Web Sites links from SharePoint Page

    Question

  • Hi,

We have a SharePoint page that contains links from Web Sites in our intranet.

I have created a SharePoint page of Content Source Type Web Sites and set the crawl settings as custom limit page depth and custom limit server hops.

When we ran a full crawl of this Content Source, we saw warnings/errors that the links from the Web Sites cannot be crawled. I tried changing the custom limit page depth and custom limit server hops, but it does not resolve this.

Does anyone has the same problem?

    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Do these links link to websites that are on the same SharePoint farm? Are they in the same web application? Do they share the same protocol (http vs https).

Ultimately, I am guessing that your issue boils down to one of permissions. That is, the search crawl account does not have permission to crawl those links.

  • Hi Doug,

These links are links from another Web server. They are not in the same web application.

As for the permissions, the search crawler account is already granted read access to the web folders.

    Thanks.
