Logical Drives Configuration

    Question

  • We have an HP DL380G7 Server with Smart Array P410i controller with a Logical Drive of 2.2 TB (Raid 5) running under Windows 2008 R2.

We want to extend the logical drive to the maximum capacity after adding 3 more 600GB disks (original configuration was 5 disks of 600GB). Our Windows Configuration (C: 156GB and E: 1892 GB) all NTFS and need more space to grow for VM's.

Can I extend the partition over the 2GB limit? The HP Array Configuration Utility give me the option to extend, but not sure for the previous comments I read. Now I am confused, I should say yes.

Is that an option or I will need to shrink the Disk 0 to handle only Windows 2008 R2 to 300GB as a Logical Drive 1, and create a logical drive 2 and then assign the rest of HDD's space one to handle the data for the MBT limitations?

Get confused reading all that stuff.

Thanks for your replies and thanks.
