The type initializer for 'Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Design.SharedIcons' threw an exception.

    Question

  • I get this exception when I try to open an existing or create a new SSIS Project (from SQL Server Data Tools for VS 2012 June 2013).

I installed the hotfixes as mentioned here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832017/en-us

    That did not change anything.

Everything worked perfectly until this started happening two days ago.

  • Hello,

I would say you have two options.

The first option is to uninstall CU3 and reinstall CU2. Please go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Under “Programs and Features” click on “View installed updates” . Select the update and click “Uninstall”.

The second option is to apply CU5.

    Hope this helps.

  • Excellent advice, thank you. I applied CU5 (which I did not know to exist) and the SSIS components in VS 2012 are functional again.
