Import Project Server 2013 customizations to Project Online

    Question

  • Hi, we're in the progress of migrating from on-premises Project Server 2013 to Project Online. We've done some customizations in our on-premises environment, such as adding custom fields, modifying page templates, etc. Is there a way to automatically import those customizations to Project Online? We don't need to import data such as projects and tasks. We just need the customizations. Thanks.

  • Hi,

there is no free tool available. Playbooks for 2010 only work (with some limitation) on 2013 on premise.

There is a partner who developed a toll you are lokoking for. Maybe an option? http://www.fluentpro.com/fluentbookscloudmigrator.html. Currently I am not aware of any other solution, sorry. Perhaps there are other ideas around.

    Regards

  • Hello,

Barbara is correct, the only tool currently available to do this is the Fluent Books cloud migrator - a great tool that I have used. This will migrate all of the Project Server config except the Enterprise Global config, your SharePoint customisations on the PWA site will not be migrated - only the Project Server specific config (views, fields, permissions, certain server settings, etc. ).

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately our budget may not allow us to purchase FluentPro. Guess I'll have to manually create all those customizations again. :(

I wonder what Microsoft suggests to migrate settings and customizations between different environments. It is common to have a development environment, a staging environment, and a production environment. It would be nice if Microsoft adds an import/export feature in the future.
