Dump not generating after unexpected shutdown of 2008 VM

  • Hi,


    I am facing issue with my server, server is getting unexpected shutdown , this is virtual server created on VMware environment. I have checked memory dump settings are enabled on server  but it is not generating any type of dump.<o:p></o:p>

    below are the registry configured on server<o:p></o:p>

    HLM\System\currentcontrolset\crashcontrol\

    dumpfile-> %systemroot%MEMORY.DMP
    minidumpDir->%systemroot%minidump<o:p></o:p>

    Can someone help me on this why dump are not generating this server and what are the possible reason for dump not generated.<o:p></o:p>

  • Can you please check once again have you configured correct path or not 

    Try to browse the path before setting it. 

    %systemroot%\MEMORY.DMP seems you forgot back slash is not it?

    You can ref to this link kindly note the pagefile shld be in c:\ els your dump wont be captured

  • yes, path is correct and it is %systemroot%\MEMORY.DMP

    so no issue with registry configuration , so what would be the issue !

  • yes , page file file is configured only in D Drive .

    is it any other reason for dump not generated expect page file configuration !

    Yes the page file shld be in c:\ so what you can do is allocate some page file in c:\

  • I would just add, if the tip from Dexter does not work then after it can be a BSOD caused by your raid controller. so a firmware & driver update in last case

    Do you have any other VMs on VMware environment?

    Did the issue occur on all of VMs or the only one?

    Is there any error message or event in the event log?

  • we are monitoring our (virtual servers)  after changing page file in c drive , we are not getting any blue dump error, we will update you.....
