ADFS 2.0 Tracing error, "There is not enough space on the disk"

    Question

  • I have ADFS 2.0, rollup 3 installed with Windows 2003 AD forest and trying to turn on ADFS tracing.  When I try to enable the log function for tracing, I get the "There is not enough space on the disk" error message and it does not enable the tracing.  I have more than 3Gb of the C drive available along with 6gb on the drive available.  Is this error message talking memory?  How can I fix this?  ADFS is installed on separate servers than the Domain controllers.

  • Hi,

Based on my experience, the trace log file size of AD FS is configured to be 10 GB by default and the log will recycle and overwrite older log file data with more recent log data.

You can change trace log file properties by right-clicking the AD FS 2.0 Tracing\Debug node and selecting the Properties option in Event Viewer.

More detailed information, please refer to the link below:

  • Just to be explicit, in the default configuration, Event Viewer won't turn on the log unless you have 10 GB of free space on your disk.

So, if you reduce the maximum log size to something less than the amount of free space you have on disk, Event Viewer will allow you to enable the log.
