HTTPD Service Monitoring

    Question

  • I am setting up a monitor for a few CentOS boxes in this environment.  The question I have when I go to setup a UNIX/Linux Service using the Management Pack Templates I get about 6 or 7 httpd processes running.  Do I need to create a monitor for each running service?

No, unless you want to monitor each instance individually. If you do want to monitor each individually, then yes.

When you create a service monitor and it has multiple instances of the same process you can have it match on all instances or you can use regular expression to pinpoint a specific process if they have unique attributes to them.

Based on this you can then configure the number of instances of the process that need to be running, at a minimum, or an alert will be generated as well as the maximum number of instances and if exceeded another alert would be generated.
