DPM 2012 - Server Member of 2 Protection Groups

    Question

  • Is it possible to have a stand-alone server be a member of 2 protection groups? This is the scenario...

    PROTECTION GROUP ONE
Perform BMR (Bare metal recovery) for c:drive which has all OS stuff

    PROTECTION GROUP TWO (Same Server)
Perform backup of d:drive for restoring individual data files.

Want bare metal backup with the ability to restore individual files.

  • Hi,

Yes, each data source can be in a separate protection group (PG).  The exception to the rule would be individual file shares that are on the same volume, in that case it's a single data source (a volume) to DPM and cannot be split between PG's.
