Configuration : Exchange 2007 - Windows7 - Outlook 2007 & word 2007
When saving a mail as *.msg, *.html or *.mht in Outlook 2007 on a windows-share our users sometimes get the following error : “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook”.
The second time they try to save the same mail they don’t get the error and the mail is saved correctly.
I’ve already tried :
· a full re-install of the windows7 + Outlook 2007 + word 2007
· new windows profile
· Install of all windows & office updates
· repair of PST and OST files
Unfortunately, the error keeps appearing with several of our users...and I’m running out of ideas.
I have a user receiving the same error message within outlook 2007, except my user gets it when trying to open another users calendar. This user needs access to multiple calendars, and was recently upgraded to Outlook 2007. I have repaired/uninstalled/reinstalled Outlook 2007 without any luck. I will say that the message disappeared after each uninstall/reinstall, but the next day, sure enough it appears again. I have found that the workaround, instead of reinstalling, for this is to Open the Calendars by going to File>Open>users calendar. Once I do that we can go back in and use the check boxes without seeing the error message.
The person in question is using Outlook 2007 with Windows XP.
Outlook is the only 2007 product on the machine.
Word and Excel 2003 complete the suite on this PC.
I am experiencing the same error on our network.
Users are setup with exchange profiles using outlook 2007 on XP, Vista and Windows 7.
When some users try and save emails as EML to the sbs 2003 server we get that error. If outlook is closed and then reopened they can save the email.
It does not happen consistently and it does not happen to all staff. I'm not sure if mailbox size is an issue or not as one of the users who has the most problems has a mailbox over 7gb.
I am have the same issues , win7 +outlook 2007, when saving a message from outlook to a network drive the user gets
The messaging interface has returned an unknown error Outlook 2007, any new ideas, I have reinstall win7, and outlook 2007 with no resolve.
i have a similar issue as well, when i try to delete mails from a personal folders file that resides on the computer, it gives me that error message. i don't know how to go about it and i do not want to recreate the mail profile as the user as too many rules.

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook. "
any idea's? thanks
This hotfix has been included in Windows 7/Windows 2008 Service Pack 1, hence solving your issue.
For all (elder) operating systems (both client and server) that use SMB, you need to apply this hotfix.
