Windows Media Player 12 playback speed bug

    Question

  • Steps to recreate this bug:

    1. Load a couple of songs into the WMP playlist
    2. Play the next song by pressing Next (>>|)
    3. Change the volume with the slider inside WMP, you'll end up speeding up the song and changing the volume at the same time.

Instead of just adjusting the volume, you'll speed up your song as well until you release the mouse. I don't really use my mouse that much but it got really annoying.

Did anyone else get the same result by trying steps mentioned above?

  • Hi,

I tested what you mentioned on my computer and there is no such issue.

If there is any third part music player, please uninstall it to check the results.

Also, to avoid other conflicts, I suggest we test the issue in clean boot mode:

If the issue doesn’t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic half services.

If this doesn’t work, let’s try to uncheck and recheck this feature under “Turn windows features on or off” to reinstall this feature:

    Hope these could be helpful.
