Out of Office Issue - Exch2k7 SP1

    Question

  • We have a trust established between 2 different forests.

    Forest A= Domain A

    Forest B= Domain B

We installed a VM in Forest A with exchange 2k7SP1 and mailbox role installed and joined to Domain B. We migrated users and tested by manually configuring their mail profiles since autodiscover would not detect the NT accounts from domain B.

When launching Outlook for a user whose NT accounts are from Domain A but mailbox in Domain B. He is logged in to Domain A with different Autodiscover settings, he is not able to access OOF.

Is there a way to configure users to get the OOF settings from domain b while they're logged in with NT credentials from Domain A.

  • Hi,
First I want to recommend you to patch your server. SP1 hasn't been supported since 10/12/2010
    See: Exchange 2007 Lifecycle

    Back to your question...
What you can to is to export the Autodiscover Configuration from DomainB to DomainA with Export-AutoDiscoverConfig.

Are you using Linked mailbox, Outlook Anywhere or just connect Outlook from a workgroup computer?

There are many methods to achieve your purpose, but we need to know how users conect exactly.

What does it mean by "He is logged in to Domain A with different Autodiscover settings"? If you can connect Autodiscover sevice of Domain A, then you need to set a external url for availability service of DomainA.

But if you want to share free/busy information between two domains, you need to one CAS server in DomainB.

  • Just regular User mailbox- no outlook anywhere or outlook in workgroup.

User A in Forest A/Domain A would get his Autodiscover settings and when he launches Outlook, he gets OOF as it retrieves it from AD.

In my case, User A is in Forest A/Domain A and his mailbox is in Forest B/Domain B. When he launches Outlook Autodiscover takes his user account and tries to get him a mailbox from the current AD which is now migrated to Forest B.

So I have to manually configure his mailbox so that he can point to his mailbox in Forest B/Domain B.

This works, but out of office within Outlook does not connect. Prompts "  Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed because the server is offline"

We do have a CAS server in Forest B- But I was told that when logging in to Forest A, the settings are retrieved from current logged on domain by Autodiscover.

    Please help.

  • Thanks. Then you need to import the autodiscover configuration across forests and configure availability service across forests.
