Replicate Clustered VM to local storage of a cluster node

    Question

  • Hello everyone,  I suspect that the answer is yes but would like confirmation on the following:

    3 (Server 2012) Hyper-V Hosts in a cluster:

    Node1

    Node2

    Node3

Node3 has alot of Local storage space.  Is it possible to replicate a couple of clustered VMs to Node3's local storage?  Also, is it possible to replicate a VM to multiple nodes?

    Thanks in advance,

    VB

  • Unfortunately this is not possible. We do not allow you to setup VM replication inside a cluster.

  • Hello,

one option you have is to evict Node3 from the Cluster and then setup replication between the Cluster and Node3.

With this you would have one two Node Cluster (here you need to add the Hyper-V Replica Broker Role) which replicates to the third machine and vice versa.

Using the local storage on one Cluster Node is not supported, as it doesn't allow the failover operation.
