Adprep 32b trouble

    Question

  • Hi,

I tried to run adprep /forestprep and it failed because I only have 64b system DVD, but I need to migrate from 32b OS. I seems like, I just need to somehow download 32b version, but I fail finding it and I don't want to download some pirate copy of 32b windows just because of this utility.

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Based on my research, the 64-bit version of Adprep.exe runs in Windows server 2008 R2 by default. If you want to run one of the Adprep.exe commands on a 32-bit computer, use the 32-bit version of Adprep32.exe.

In Windows Server 2012, there is only one 64-bit version of Adprep.exe.

  • Hello,

Adprep.exe is a command-line tool that is available on the Windows Server 2008 installation disc in the \sources\adprep folder, and it is available on the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation disk in the \support\adprep folder. You must run adprep from an elevated command prompt. To open an elevated command prompt, click Start, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

In Windows Server 2008 R2, Adprep is available in a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version. The 64-bit version runs by default. If you need to run Adprep on a 32-bit computer, run the 32-bit version (Adprep32.exe).

  • What OS are you trying to run it on and what DVD are you running it from?  I ask because 2008R2 media has both 32bit and 64bit versions of adprep in the folder \support\adprep (adprep32.exe).

Be kind and Mark as Answer if I helped.
